The Swisswool Story

For its Swisswool products, Ortovox uses lightweight, highly insulating wadding made from Swiss mountain sheep wool. Since there is no direct skin contact with the wool insulation, it is not necessary to use finer merino wool for this purpose, as this would only unnecessarily drive up the price. Moreover, this allows the use of European virgin wool, which in turn shortens the supply chain, as all Ortovox Swisswool items are also manufactured in Europe.

Swisswool clothing is not only significantly more environmentally friendly than synthetic fiber insulation jackets, which pollute the oceans with microplastics, but also functionally superior.
With comparable weight and pack size, the wool filling has significantly higher thermal performance and better heat retention capabilities when wet. Worn under hardshells, the wool wadding acts as a moisture buffer and creates a natural climate with balanced temperature regulation.

Swisswool is also on par with synthetic filling fibers when it comes to uncomplicated washability. Only a wool detergent is needed.
The wool wadding dries quickly and does not clump when it gets wet. In this respect, it also outperforms any down filling.

Swisswool helps preserve mountain sheep farming in the Swiss Alps, supporting many small mountain farming businesses. Shepherds can drop off their wool at collection points in the valleys. This creates a regional system of fairly traded wool directly from the producer.
