Benefits of Merino Socks!

Avoid sweaty feet and blisters with merino hiking socks

If you buy waterproof hiking boots today, you are typically offered hiking socks made of synthetic material as well, based on the assumption that a shoe with a breathable membrane also remains breathable. But this assumption is based on a fatal misconception.

Microporous membranes only remain vapor-permeable if they are regularly washed with special detergent. This is easily possible with waterproof textiles, but not with shoes. A hiking boot with a membrane is hardly vapor-permeable after prolonged use because the pores become clogged by fat and salt from sweat.
Pure synthetic fiber socks are a fatal choice at the latest then, because they can hardly store moisture and the way out is blocked.
As soon as the inner lining of the shoe can no longer absorb sweat, you literally stand in your "own soup."
This is not only unpleasant, but also quickly softens the skin. Moist and softened skin, in addition to a poor shoe fit, is the main cause of blistering.

However, this effect can be easily avoided with hiking socks with a high merino wool content, because the wool fibers can absorb up to 1/3 of their own weight in moisture without the surface being wet. They act as a buffer and thus keep the foot dry much longer.
With dry skin, there is less friction in the shoe and therefore hardly any blistering.

Natural foot climate without unpleasant odors in the shoe

As described above, a hiking boot cannot be washed in a washing machine. All the more reason why pure synthetic fiber socks, which smell of foot sweat after a short time, are a clear topic failure here.
Just think of the unbearable air in the drying room of an alpine hiking hut, which everyone wants to escape as quickly as possible.
But not only is the nose tormented by this, it is also not hygienic. The shoe becomes a breeding ground for bacteria & co.
Here, too, merino wool has the solution, because thanks to the special molecular fiber structure, it creates a skin-friendly environment and prevents the development of odors in the long term, even without the addition of chemical odor inhibitors.

Warm feet with ski socks made of merino wool

When it takes a long time in the lift line or when the icy wind blows around your ski boots in the chairlift, you can rely on your merino ski socks, because they not only keep your feet dry for a long time, but are also particularly heat-efficient without physical activity.
The property of wool to buffer moisture and thus keep the foot dry longer is particularly important in ski boots, as the outer shell of the ski boot represents an insurmountable barrier for sweat.
