How did Kari Traa – the Norwegian brand exclusively for women – come about?
Kari Traa is not only a freestyle skier with 3 Olympic medals, but also the creator of a successful sportswear brand specifically for women. Kari's story begins in Voss, the small town caught between the Norwegian fjords and mountains where she was born and grew up.
Her Norwegian roots, along with her passion for winter sports, gave her the idea to develop modern sportswear with design elements from traditional Norwegian clothing. Between training and competition, Kari began knitting hats for friends and her own ski gang. The designs became so popular with friends and other skiers from all over the world that the Kari Traa brand was born.
The Norwegian nature and a strong sense of Scandinavian tradition are still the source of inspiration for today's designs. Kari Traa underwear is developed to be perfectly adapted to the female form and to handle all the demands of an active, sporty and adventurous life.
The merino wool processed by Kari Traa is certified mulesing-free according to IWTO (International Wool Textile Organisation).
The materials at Kari Traa meet the strict bluesign® criteria as well as the OEKO-TEX®Standard100.
All Kari Traa underwear styles sold in our shop are microplastic-free and the corresponding product packaging was switched from plastic to FSC®-certified cardboard in 2020, partly due to our criticism.
Kari Traa's vision is to create feminine and exceptionally colorful clothing that will enable adventurous women all over the world to enjoy nature properly equipped, no matter where their journey takes them.
Following the motto “For Her – By Her”, the product development and design department at Kari Traa consists predominantly of women.
