Woolpower – responsibly made in Sweden
Woolpower Merino underwear has been manufactured under the same roof in Östersund, northern Sweden, since 1969, from the finished yarn to the final product.
Woolpower thus shows that cost-effective textile production is possible even in a country like Sweden. The elimination of outsourced production steps and corresponding transport routes is not only cost-efficient, but also more sustainable and also enables complete quality control throughout the entire manufacturing process.
Ullfrotté Original, the fabric that was developed in the early 1970s, is a knitted Merino terry cloth. And it is the terry cloth loops in combination with the crimped structure of the wool that ensure maximum insulation.
The secret of this material cannot be seen with the naked eye. The jersey knit binds a lot of air and the thicker the layer of air on the body, the less body heat can escape.
The Woolpower Ullfrotté Original knit is available in different thicknesses:
- Ullfrotté 200 (underwear, accessories)
- Ullfrotté 400 (underwear, midlayer, socks, accessories)
- Ullfrotté 600 (midlayer, socks)
- Ullfrotté 800 (socks)
The Woolpower 400 combo (zip turtleneck + long johns) is, to our knowledge, the warmest functional underwear on the market and is not only suitable for the Swedish winter. The Woolpower Ullfrotté series has been valued by outdoor enthusiasts for generations. It is also popular for outdoor work, hunting and the military due to its outstanding heat retention.
Woolpower offers uncompromising warmth from socks to first and mid layers and balaclavas. The material has been successfully tested for over 50 years.
The production site in Östersund enables Woolpower to ensure consistent quality and better control its environmental impact.
The Woolpower Ullfrotté Original knit is certified according to the OEKO-TEX®Standard100 . This internationally recognized seal guarantees that the fabric does not contain any toxic substances.
Woolpower sources its merino wool from Patagonia and Uruguay. Mulesing , which is frowned upon, is not an issue there, as the parasitic fly maggots common in Australia do not occur there. By working with the Südwolle Group, Woolpower can guarantee impeccable animal welfare standards.
The Merino wool is washed, dyed and spun into yarn by the Südwolle Group mainly in Germany. All other production steps take place in Sweden. The finished fabrics are pre-shrunk using a special hot wash and thermal drying process so that they do not shrink later. This process means that Woolpower Ullfrotté clothing can be washed at up to 60°.
Woolpower runs its Swedish factory with 100% renewable electricity and also relies on fair working conditions and long-term employment contracts. For example, a seamstress sews a complete garment from the first to the last seam and also carries out quality control. This creates variety in the work. One sign of this is the quality seal that can be found in every Woolpower item.
